Div/Dept: Directorate of Human Resources (DHR), Passports
Service(s): Passport travel information
Description: A tourist passport is needed to travel within the European Union. It is prohibited to use the no-fee passport to travel within the EU. While the EU does have open borders, this is a benefit for EU nationals only. U.S. citizens traveling in Europe must be able to present a valid (tourist) passport if asked by an official. The only time a no-fee passport should be used for travel is between the U.S. and Germany (per the SOFA stamp). Tourist passports can be obtained through the passport office. Please see links below for the USAG Bamberg Passport office, European Union travel regulations, and use of no-fee passports for traveling.
