Mission

To implement and manage the civilian EEO program ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and practices. To administer a customer focused program that creates and nurtures a work environment free of discrimination and fosters opportunities for everyone. Provides U.S. Applicants, Current and Former U.S. Employees, (to include certain Contractors) with equal employment opportunity and treatment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age (+40), disability, physical or mental and reprisal (participation in the EEO process).

History

The foundation for EEO can be traced back to the US Constitution. However, significant progress in shaping current laws was made between 1941 and 1963 when Presidents Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, and Kennedy issued a series of Executive Orders barring discrimination. The passage of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as amended, the Equal Employment Act of 1972, and the Civil Rights Act of 1991 were, and remain, the cornerstones for efforts in eliminating employment discrimination.
